Flowers and Plants

Most of the plants you grow are perfectly safe but it is advisable to see that all steps are taken to ensure that you and your family are safe from harm. This is particularly important when it comes to children and animals.

The flowers are like large snowdrops and are borne on long bright green stems of about 14ins (36cm); they are a great addition to your Spring display.

One of the most spectacular plants in January and February is Hamamelis or Witch Hazel with the added bonus of brightly coloured leaves during the Autumn

Camellia sinensis is similar to the more common ornamental varieties but with the benefit of being able to produce tea from the leaves and shoots.

It is always best to plant Snowdrops “in the green”, that is; when they are still in leaf and even flower. In the green is also the best time to divide congested clumps and replant around you garden.

Ornamental Grasses thrive in open positions in full sun in the herbaceous border, as a specimen plant or in containers.

Hedges are trees or shrubs which are planted close together to form a continuous row of foliage. They are usually cut to maintain a particular shape and height.

Ground Cover plants are low growing, spreading shrubs which can cover a large area of ground, usually quite quickly. They suppress weeds and require very little attention.

Evergreens are plants that keep their leaves all year round although they do tend to shed a few along the way.

Climbers are shrubs which are adapted to growing up vertical structures, they add a vertical element to a garden and can be trained against a wall, fence or trellis, over arches and pergolas, through trees or used as ground cover.
