Christmas Gifts for The Gardener

Christmas is fast-approaching, and although this is a wonderful time to celebrate with your family, it can be somewhat daunting trying to come up with gift ideas for everyone. It doesn’t have to be flashy, it doesn’t have to be expensive, but it should be something you’ve taken the time to think about.

If you have a gardener in the family, you’re in luck. There are many different things you can buy them that will help with their hobby and make use of their green fingers. Here are just a few for you to check out:

Wheelbarrow

If there is one thing that every gardener needs, it’s a good wheelbarrow. Not only can it be used to tidy up the mud, leaves, soil, or anything else that is in the garden and shouldn’t be, but a wheelbarrow can double as a trolley, helping to move equipment from one place to another. For those with sore backs, or other mobility issues that make pushing a wheelbarrow difficult, why not invest in a powered wheelbarrow; it’s certainly something different, and it will get a lot of use.

Gardening Shoes

Every keen gardener should have a pair of gardening shoes that they can quickly slip on to keep their feet safe and dry whatever the weather, whatever the season. Having a pair of shoes that are specific to the garden, means that no dirt will get tracked through the house. There are shoes made specifically for gardening, and they have grips on the bottom that are made of special stain resistant material.

Garden Ornaments

Although some garden ornaments can be a little… tacky, there are others that are absolutely delightful and will make any garden look complete. Then again, if tacky is something your friend or family member finds amusing, go for it – pick the ornament you know they will love. You can get stone, concrete or even wooden ones (if you opt for a wooden ornament remember to check whether it’s treated with varnish or Danish oil before leaving it outside, otherwise the elements will ruin it), or perhaps you could choose a windchime. See what matches their personality and tastes, and go from there.

Garden Bench

If your green fingered friend loves to spend a lot of time out in the garden, a beautiful bench, perhaps even one engraved with a message, will be a wonderful Christmas gift. It will give them a place to sit when they need a break from their gardening. Perhaps you can even use it to sit together to reminisce, or watch the children and dogs play. Whatever the reason, a garden bench can be a truly thoughtful gift that will last for many years to come.

Solar Powered Lights

Every keen gardener is going to be pleased to receive gorgeous looking solar powered lights as a gift. It means they can stay in the garden for longer, get more done, and generally enjoy themselves for a few more hours. Who wouldn’t be happy with that? Solar lights are perfect because they don’t need any wiring, they’re entirely safe, they’re really easy to install, and they’re good for the environment too.

Magazine Subscription

For the gardener who already has everything, what about a magazine subscription? There are a variety of excellent gardening magazines to choose from, each one packed with information, ideas, and tips on how to make your garden the best it can be. Buying a subscription means that a new issue of the magazine will arrive their doorstep each month or so, so the gift will go on giving all year round. Another bonus of giving this kind of gift is that, assuming the receiver enjoys the magazine, you can simply renew the subscription next year (and for multiple years thereafter) too!

Bird Feeder

A bird feeder can make a gorgeous gift because not only do they look great, but they are a nice way of ensuring the gardener takes it easy from time to time. If they’re always rushing around, busy here, there, and everywhere, a bird feeder in the garden can ‘force’ them to sit and rest for a moment, watching the birds come and go. Now that is certainly a good thing. If you’re particularly handy and you want to do something totally unique, you can make your own bird feeder – a handmade gift always goes down well.
